Capacity Building Programme on Social Science 2024

The Asian School, Dehradun, hosted a two-day Capacity Building Programme (CBP) on Social Science for Strengthening Assessment and Evaluation Practices on 19th and 20th November, 2024, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.A total of 55 participants from various government aided and private schools of Dehradun and neighbouring areas actively participated in the workshop.

The programme aimed to empower educators with innovative teaching methodologies, refined assessment practices, and student-centred strategies to enhance holistic learning. The event featured resource persons Mrs.Sanjaya Walia, Principal of Venkateshwara World School, Meerut, and recipient of the Nari Shakti Samman (2020) and Utkrasth Shikshak Samman (2019) and Mrs. Astha Panwar, an experienced PGT in Business Studies and History at Mount Litera Zee School, Haridwar. The program was also honoured by the presence of Mr. Manish Kumar Tyagi, Deputy Secretary and Head of CBSE’s Centre of Excellence, Dehradun, as the special guest.

The program focused on critical areas such as aligning assessments with learning objectives, refining pedagogy, and fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and problem- solving skills. Participants explored innovative methods for teaching Social Science, including lecture, demonstrative, and problem-solving approaches, along with student- centred strategies like group discussions, research-based learning, role-play, and technology integration.

Activities such as lesson plan creation and role-play simulations were key highlights. In the lesson plan activity, educators developed and presented dynamic, objective-aligned lesson plans to make learning more engaging and impactful. The role-play activity allowed participants to simulate real-life classroom scenarios, fostering empathy, active learning, and collaborative problem-solving among students.

A comprehensive discussion was held on the interdisciplinary project, with a focus on the various types of questions and the intricacies of their marking scheme.

In his address, Mr. Manish Kumar Tyagi emphasised enhancing student engagement and participation through innovative teaching practices. He encouraged educators to collaborate and revolutionise their methods to create captivating, interactive, and creative learning experiences.

The workshop highlighted the vital role of Social Science in fostering critical thinking and shaping responsible global citizens.

Aligned with NEP 2020, the Programme reinforced competency-based education, holistic development, and teacher professional growth. The CBP concluded with enthusiastic participation, leaving educators motivated to implement transformative practices for enhanced student outcomes.
