The 24rd Junior Sports Day of The Asian School was held on 6th November, 2023 in the sprawling and lush green woods with much fervor and passion.
The Chief Guest for the event was Col Sumit Datta, an alumni of St. Xavier’s School, Jaipur. He has served long tenures in the hostile territories of Northern and Eastern sectors of India and is a seasoned soldier. In cricket he has represented services in the Ranji Trophy.
The Guest of Honour was Ms. Chitra K. Soman, an Indian sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres. She ran for the Indian team who won a Silver Medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. She is a recipient of the Arjun Awards . She also won a gold medal in 4x400mt. race at Oman Athletic Championship.
The highlights of the sports day were 25m, 50m, 80m, 100m and shuttle races of the Primary School. The Pre-Primary enthralled the audience with their fun filled races which included ‘Bursting Balloon Race’, ‘Beads Race’ and ‘Ring Race’. The students displayed a wide array of colourful and reverberant events. Participants of classes 4 and 5 demonstrated a ‘Zumba Dance’ which was indeed eye-catching with the message of importance of fitness and health. The talented students of Classes 4 and 5 depicted a series of 12 physical postures through ‘Surya Namaskar’. They also mesmerized the audience with their graceful movements through a Shiv Tandava, a dance form of passion, anger and intense energy describing the power and beauty of Lord Shiva.
The significance of colours was showcased through a ‘Rainbow Parade’ performed by classes 1,2 and 3. The children were dressed up as different colours of the rainbow depicting VIBGYOR with the message that “Without colours life would be so boring! God loves diversity, that is why he made us all different just like the 7 colours.”
A fun filled race for the parents was organized with the name “Tie the knot and fold the saree” which saw an active participation of the parents. They acted as a role model to encourage their children to participate in sports.
The Chief Guest and Guest of Honour were delighted to see a large number of young children participating so enthusiastically. They appreciated the efforts of all the participants and also emphasized the importance of outdoor games. The energetic performances left the audience mesmerized and reaped many laurels. The Principal of the Asian School Ms. Ruchi Pradhan Datta proposed the vote of thanks.
